About this deal

The book’s main theme is a strong message of cordial co existence, no matter what differences we have and the fast moving storyline should keep the most reluctant of readers glued to the page.

I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. I would have perhaps liked to know the back story for Della and the Cailleach, but perhaps this means that there may be be a prequel or sequel to come?

Even though the book is set far in the future there's a lot of themes covered that are relevant today. It is good to finally read a story with a non binary main character (using the pronouns ze/hir), who is integral to the plot. Adam 2 has been locked away for 200 years, and knows nothing of the war between robots and humankind. First a boring life and a few minutes reading later a massive adventure with robots and humans killing each other and finally one smart robot creates people. The characters (human and robot) were well-written and, as the story progressed, it became difficult to know just who to believe.

This is one of the best books I have read in recent years and I would recommend it to readers aged 10+ who like speculative fiction and futuristic stories. Perfect for readers not quite yet ready for ‘Mortal Engines’, this will set out a great enter into dystopian futures… Adam-6 and Red Sky made me think of Mr Shrike so many times! Readers are likely to find themselves empathising with first one side and then the other and might do well to remember that history is always written by the winners.Ihan huimaa, että tässä on ei-binäärinen hahmo ja kuinka toiseutta voidaan tuoda nerokkaasti esille laittamalla toiseksi kertojaksi robotti. In Adam-2 Chisholm has given us an allegory which hits hard in the current climate and a thought-provoking solution to the ills of the world. When the trio emerge into the city, Adam finds it unrecognisable: blackened, hollow, flooded; devastated by two centuries of war between humans and intelligent machines. We test over 200 virtual prototypes for each paraglider, using 50 million iterations of the structural / aero calculations.

This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally). The story is full of manipulation and betrayal, made all the more horrific when seen through Adam’s initially uncomprehending eyes. Hunted by both sides, Adam discovers that he holds the key to the war, and the power to end it – to destroy one side and save the other. This was just accepted as normal and I think its really great that kids can see this kind of representation in fiction - whether for themselves personally or just to gain a better and more empathetic understanding of those who may be different from them. Therefore, when he’s disturbed by Runa and Linden, and a whole new world is revealed to him, he’s astounded. Adamin isä on sanonut, että sen tulee harjoitella hyvänä poikana olemista ja se ei saa lähteä kellarista. I thought this book explored incredibly well the concept of AI sentience and autonomy, as well as the concept of free will and the purpose of living.

It's very much in the Soviet era Eastern European animation tradition of sardonic, macabre, implicitly political satire/allegory, though you'd think its relatively rare feature-length status among such films would have resulted in a larger reputation. The robot Adam-2 has been locked in the basement of a lost building for over two hundred years - until one day he is discovered by two children, and emerges into a world ruined by a civil war between humans and advanced intelligence.Adam-2 has to work out what has happened to create, and prolong, the long term war between the humans and robots and find a way to end the war and bring peace. Hunted by both sides, Adam discovers that he holds the key to the war, and the power to end it - to destroy one side and save the other.
