About this deal

You can forget all the rumours about vampires not having reflections, as Amelia’s mother just loves hers! This book follows Amelia Fang, 10, as she complains about going to yet another one of her family's Barbaric Ball to her parents, Count and Countess of Nocturnia. The perfect mix of funny, foul and fearful’ Metro ‘Brilliantly imagined … laugh-out-loud funny’ Sunday Express. Grimaldi the reaper and spoilt Prince Tangine, as well as terrifyingly glittery unicorns, angel-kittens and fairies galore.

A truly wonderful story about making friends and finding out who people really are, it is full of escapades and fun that kids will enjoy reading time and time again and is aimed at the 5 to 8 years market with manageable chapters for the beginning chapter book reader to get their teeth sunk into ;) This book is such a great read that I feel that older children will also love it as well as many parents who will enjoy reading this book either aloud to, or along with, their kids. Amelia Fang is a vampire who lives in Nocturnia, a world where vampires and yetis and all sorts of spooky creatures live - and they’re terrified of unicorns and ladybirds and fairies - and with good reason too. The illustrations are also done by author Laura Ellen Anderson, and I love the illustrations so much.Parental figures were ridiculed, undermined as authority and most importantly refused to help Amelia when she was in a state of need. As organiser of the annual Barbaric Ball, Amelia's mother is delighted when King Vladimir and his son Prince Tangine announce they will be attending the event. This year's World Book Day is on 7 March and if you're feeling stumped for costume ideas, look no further! This experience has been fantastic primarily for the children, the school and also for me (professionally).

When I'm not working, I'm usually making 3D models of characters, creating Harry Potter fan art, baking (and eating) and making ‘To Do’ lists. Her mother puts the need to please the King before her own daughter on several occasions - for example she lets prince Tangine take Amelia's pet and when she protests and stands up for herself, she tells her "not to be hysterical and not to cause a scene".Laura has illustrated a range of book covers such as Terry Pratchett’s Tiffany Aching series, The Amazing Maurice, Dodger and Nation. I see what the author tried to do but unfortunately it was once again executed, in my opinion,in a wrong way. How she does it and how she teaches the Prince a valuable lesson manners, friendship and acceptance is the main thrust of the book. Everyone knew that while Nocturnians were sleeping and the sun was out, terrifying creatures from the nearby Kingdom of the Light lurked around the Petrified Forest. and Grimaldi the reaper may want to spend their time watching Deathflix at Fang Mansion, munching on Unlucky Arms cereal or toe-jam on toast, but they can’t help falling into the most gripping and ghoulish adventures.

There are lots of exciting things coming up in October for the much-anticipated Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball. This first in a new series has a very attractive cover, which is sure to appeal to fans of books, such as “Witch Wars.

In his opinion, his social status gives him the right to torment everyone around him, his main target being Amelia. Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball opens a ghoulishly good series for newer independent readers, and fans of great graphic novels.

Welcome to the world of Nocturnia, where darkness reigns supreme, glitter is terrifying, and unicorns are the stuff of nightmares! This makes Amelia Fang and the Barbaric Ball a very satisfying, funny and curious opening title to a wonderful series. She spends every waking hour creating and drawing, and would quite like to live on the moon when humans finally make it possible. There was just the right amount of choice to suit everyone without being overwhelming and I received comments from parents and staff about the quality of books offered compared to previous sales which have always been based around current crazes and well known celebrity authors. The book doesn't quite stick the landing (everything is resolved and everyone gets along VERY fast).
