About this deal

Sophie arrives at the old Dunvegan School for girls that is now her uncle’s family home to spend the summer with her cousins. Because of this I found it hard to create an attachment to any of the characters, with the exception of Cameron and Sophie whom I was definitely rooting for. Piper was almost cookie-cutter perfect for the majority of the book and then a sociopath for the rest. From the very beginning, when Sophie is sitting with her best friend Jay in a diner and he presents her with an app of a Ouija board, you know things are not going to end well.

Sophie's cousins live on the Isle of Skye, which is only accessible from the British mainland by ferry.Check out Sleepless by Lou Morgan, also from the Red Eye series - the nightmare begins when you're awake. Sophie is the main character of the book and the tragedy that strikes her friend Jay after messing around with a Ouija board app is what spurs her onto finding the ghost of her dead cousin. When I first read the blurb of this book, I had not expected the sheer extent of how horrific Rebecca’s death would have been.

Sophie may be the main character in the book but she did not really appeal to me as a character; even though she was like me, blaming herself for things that were not her fault. There were a few scenes in the book where I did actually find myself lifting my feet from the floor so that I wouldn’t imagine a freezing cold hand reaching out to my ankle. All in all, this mysterious novel was a gripping page-turner and it was hard to put down until the mystery was solved. Although some parts of the story will be predictable to seasoned horror readers, the characterization and added mystery really make up for that, and I never once felt like "skimming" through any of the details.

There are scenes that you can just hear and feel these scary little Charlotte dolls coming into you own home and into your dreams! Determined to find out exactly what happened to both Rebecca and Jay, Sophie goes off to stay with her uncle and surviving cousins on the remote island of Skye.

Sophie eventually will learn that there is a villain present who may be working with the dolls, and her own situation becomes ever more precarious. I don’t tend to read too many horror books, because I’m not a big fan of gore, but luckily this story is more creepy than gory and kind of straddles the horror/psychological thriller genres, so for those who aren’t that keen on horror, that’s not all this story is, it’s a light horror with a lot of mystery vibes really. She immediately hits it off with Piper, who is always exuding charm and positivity as she takes over as host and prepares the food and shows her around. He hasn’t been the same since … well… Our family has had its share of troubles, as I’m sure you know.
