Stripes continue across both flanks of the van, interrupted by trans-orange side lights towards the front and rear. The dark brown band looks particularly effective and I like the curved wheel arches, which have never appeared in reddish brown before. The simple 6x6 tiles covering the roof seem surprisingly successful too, capturing the aforementioned boxy profile shape. The tab bar now shows a change icon for any tabs that contain changes. This makes it much easier to find where things have changed in your flows. Avengers: Endgame Final Battle includes an extraordinary selection of minifigures and they have dominated discussion surrounding this set, understandably. The brand new Thanos bigfig represents an enormous improvement over previous designs and the heroes are superb too, especially given their remarkable quantity. Scarlet Witch remains somewhat disappointing though, differing from the original character.
The interior is divided into three sections, including a small laboratory which contains various enjoyable details from Avengers: Endgame. The inverted Möbius strip, devised by Tony Stark and stabilising paths through time, is provided with Tony's advanced Nano Gauntlet. This vital accessory is represented by a dark red gauntlet element and can fit over a minifigure hand. We have occasionally had requests to make the tab canvas bigger. There was even a discussion around making it infinitely large - allowing a flow to be as large as it needs to be. Whilst that's a nice idea, for this release we've simply increased the size of each tab from 5000x5000 to 8000x8000. Avengers Tower aims to be the ultimate Avengers set, containing as many characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as possible. In sheer quantity, the set certainly succeeds, but I find some of the character choices underwhelming. After all, almost all of the major heroes have appeared many times before and few are improved here. More dual-moulded pieces or printed arms would not have gone amiss. Appealing though those heroes are, the new Thanos bigfig is undoubtedly the highlight of this entire set. While his proportions have remained unchanged, the figure features a rotating head which is extremely unusual among the numerous bigfigs produced since 2007. Additionally, the head can be completely removed and shares similar proportions to traditional minifigures, even including a functional stud on top! Although the wings leave something to be desired, Sam Wilson's minifigure features plenty of detail. I like this hair component and the metallic accents on Sam's torso are appealing, while his goggles correspond with the onscreen character. However, this is an occasion where dual-moulded arms would have been perfect, as Falcon is usually seen with short sleeves.The poor GWP and the mediocre minifigs have altered my intention to buy this on release, and placed me solidly astride the proverbial fence. The medium blue shirt developed for 21328 Seinfeld also works nicely, so I think the use of existing elements for Erik Selvig makes sense.
Very excited by the Thanos fig and the potential for more bigfigs to advance to this new standard. I don't necessarily think it's necessary for all bigfigs—for instance, I'm a big fan of Sandy in the Monkie Kid theme but since his beard couldn't really be made to rotate well, I don't think he'd benefit much from a separate head piece. The next thing these types of heads will need is hair or helmets for other characters. They'd most likely need to be shaped to fit these heads, though I'm mildly curious what the hairpieces from the Trolls theme might look like on the Thanos fig—probably not a perfect fit, but it'd probably be funny looking one way or the other! Their goggles are comically oversized, but they look reasonable when raised on top of the helmets. Those supplementary structures are connected to the main building using Technic pins, hence they can be removed with ease. The first represents the destruction caused by Thanos' arrival and looks impressive, featuring shattered edges around the wall panel. However, this appears somewhat strange because the primary headquarters building is completely intact. Maybe this section of wall could have been detached from the central structure.
